The Duke of York’s Picturehouse is the oldest purpose built cinema in the UK and has the personality to match. Our historic site has brought joy to cinemagoers across the decades and in 2009 we began bringing joy to newlyweds too! It all started with Karlyn and Chris, a couple who were in love with each other and in love with the cinema! They liked the idea of having their wedding at the Duke’s so much, that they bought us our civil ceremonies license. The rest, as they say, is history and we currently house around fifteen ceremonies per year. While it might seem strange to hold your ceremony at a cinema, The Duke of York’s has proven over the years that it’s a gorgeous, kooky and romantic space for the occasion. With a team of dedicated staff on hand, you and your guests will be treated to a day you’ll never forget. With our facilities you can screen personal clips or slideshows or even scenes from your favourite films. Your names will be displayed on our traditional readograph and your guests can be treated to Prosecco and popcorn in our bar and terrace. These, however, are only suggestions and we are chiefly committed to providing bespoke ceremonies, of which no two are ever the same. Couples will therefore be invited to meet with our wedding specialist to ensure that your day is precisely what you’ve envisioned. In the past we’ve hosted a Back to the Future themed wedding and a steampunk ceremony – so (almost) anything is possible!
