Alpheton Hall Barns

The fact that it is very rare for us not to receive an unprompted hand written letter of thanks after the wedding says it all. We are not your usual commercial venue, we don't do back to back weddings, we do give exclusive access over 48 hours. We don't charge corkage or unnecessarily restrict your choice of suppliers. We do have separate reception / dancing and ceremonies spaces, no being kicked out in the rain whilst things are reorganised here. We can cope with 200 for both ceremony and meal (licensed for 250) without needing to move anything about during the day, yet weddings for 40 don't feel lost. It is your wedding not ours and the whole day should reflect this with our being available to discretely assist, guide and prompt, if, as and when appropriate. Whilst a rural location we are only 1 mile off the main road and are accessible by double decker buses and artics. The barns, arguably constituting the oldest remnants of a timber framed barn in Europe are understood to have been instigated by Aefflaed sister in law to Edmund I when she settled here and gave the village its name after the death of her husband Bryhtnoth at the Battle of Maldon 993. With sympathetic restoration, oak being self scourced from the bounds of the original (10th century) estate the barns are timeless yet they benefit from fibre internet and discrete high tech wifi controlled PA systems, lighting and heating. Viewings are generally available between dawn and dusk as long as they do not clash with a wedding or the wine bottle.
