What is your most memorable wedding?
I can't pick just one!
Describe your style in 5 adjectives.
Creative, timeless, artistic, unobtrusive, warm.
What about your business are you most proud of?
I'm proud of having established my business 20 years ago and that I'm still as excited and inspired by photography as I was then. I've made wonderful friends through my business which has enhanced my life and that of my family - a wonderful career!
What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?
I can't think of a favourite. I often see wonderful imaginative and creative touches as couples don't feel constrained by tradition as they once did.
Describe your typical process with a couple.
Couples either email me or telephone. We arrange a meeting which is invariably an evening during the week at my studio in Marlow. I discuss wedding plans with them and show examples of my work, albums and discuss the way I work. This is usually a fun evening, with coffee/tea, biscuits or a glass of wine!
What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?
The first kiss!
What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?
Don't worry about the weather, it's the one thing you have no control over. The rainy weddings I've photographed have also allowed for some creative, fun and evocative brolly shots!
Describe how you got into photography.
My love of photography started when my children were small and we lived in Singapore and Indonesia. They were wonderful places to explore my creativity, using an Olympus OM-2 and experimenting with different lenses.
Back in the UK, an enthusiastic friend who had been a fashion photographer for Vogue suggested that I take it further. I studied at Henley College and had my own darkroom at home. To my surprise, I started getting commissions. My tutor suggested that I enter the Kodak Awards and, to my amazement, I won Kodak Open Portrait Photographer of the Year 2000 UK. This catapulted my business and I was soon shooting four commissions a day.
As time went on, I was asked to photograph weddings. As I dipped in, I but found that I loved it and I’ve since won numerous awards for my creative wedding photography. Happily, it’s now a large part of my life. I’ve engaged in continual professional development over the years gaining my Associateship to the Royal Photographic Society in 2006. I’m also a qualified Master Photographer. There’s been a lot of progress in the industry since those analogue years, but while the process has changed the eye hasn’t!
