Absolutely fantastic.

Steven sang at our wedding reception and provided the evening entertainment for us at The Hepworth in Wakefield at the end of February. He was absolutely fantastic and so many of the guests commented on how great he was. Everyone was up and dancing and Steve really captured the mood of the wedding with his choice of music for all the live sets. We couldn't recommend him highly enough, he has a tiny groupie in our daughter for life I think!

It's like he's never offline!

Since booking Steven for our wedding, he has been nothing but professional in his communication with us. He added us to his "Weddings and events" group which has proved to be very useful in providing excellent hints, tips and ideas when planning an event such as our wedding. His response to email and social media queries is excellent - it's like he's never off-line! Nothing is too much trouble, the group is very helpful, bouncing ideas and thoughts off other members with relevant input from Steven.

Definitely a 5 star!

definitely a 5* He was brilliant on the night and had loads of great feedback from our guests too. Great communication from Steve in the lead up to the big day, with regular updates and invites to local gigs. Would recommend Steve to anyone looking for an acoustic singer at their wedding, top class!

Definitely recommend him.

Thank you so much. Steven performed at our wedding on 9th June 2017. During the morning before our wedding, I was getting increasingly nervous about how the day was going to go down, but from the moment began I walking down the hill towards Falling Foss Tea Garden, I heard Steven's music in the distance and everything felt serene. His performance really helped our wedding feel special, not only for me and Lisa but for all our guests. All night I was answering questions on how we found Steven and comments of how brilliant his music was. I would definitely recommend Steven. Thank you again!\\

Incredible!

Steven was incredible this weekend for our wedding. I never imagined that he would get so involved with everyone, he made everyone so welcome. He made our day! Every guest has nothing but great things to say - so I'll pass on their thank you's! I would thoroughly recommend Steven, I don't think the day would've been the same with anyone else. On behalf of myself and Laura, thank you Steve!

So good the groom danced all night and didn't speak to anyone! XD

Steven played at our wedding for the drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening do. He was absolutely fantastic and went above and beyond what we asked or expected. It's over two weeks later and he is still all people are talking about! We cannot thank Steven enough for making our day complete. We would recommend him to everyone as he would not disappoint and knows how to get everyone dancing... we never saw our dance floor empty! Downside... the Groom wouldn't stop dancing all night so didn't speak to many guest

The longest (and best) review in the world EVER

Steven played at our wedding on Friday 7th April 2017 at The Mere in Knutsford during the ceremony, reception drinks and the evening reception and DJ'd as part of the Platinum Package. He absolutely made our day and night and he is all any of our guests have talked about over the last couple of days... In short: If you have already booked Steven you are in safe hands and will have an exceptional wedding; and if you are just considering booking him then you really need to- I guarantee you will not be disappointed! If, like us you are a bride/groom who is pouring over Trip Advisor and google with military precision when you really should be going to sleep then read on: I am into my music. I've studied it, played it and lived and breathed it in my family from an early age. Every memory is linked to a song or two and we love nothing more than to spend a date night watching live music over a few drinks. When my husband and I were making our initial wedding plans, we decided that we wanted to incorporate some live music to give our celebration the vibe we were looking for. As an anxious bride, I also decided that having a live musician would overcome concerns about the music being too quietly/played at the wrong time etc. And so the search began. I spent months googling agency websites, going to wedding fayres to listen to bands, asking friends for recommendations and could not find what we were looking for. I seemed to be seeing the same 'beige' set lists of overplayed songs that I wasn't interested in hearing and especially not at my wedding and at best, a lot of dated, Michael Buble wannabes singing over backing tracks and butchering songs. We were starting to lose all hope of finding the right act for us and we're going to just book a DJ, until in a stroke of fate, another singer/guitarist who we had enquired about said he was unavailable and recommended Steven Heath Music. Our first thoughts were that Yorkshire was probably too far for him to travel but I clicked onto the website and started to listen to the samples. Steven had a beautiful voice and was an equally talented guitarist. He was a true musician. His set list particularly caught my eye because of the range of indie songs and songs that only a skilled musician would dare to tackle. I instantly knew that we had to book Steven and convinced my husband of it. After sending a message, Steven called to have an initial chat and warned me in no uncertain terms, that if I was looking for an average Michael Buble-esque typical wedding singer than he wouldn't fit the bill. Sold! We also got into a chat about a cover we'd heard of Paul Simon's Sound of Silence (his favourite artist) and he spoke about how it lost some of the musicality as it was too heavy an arrangement. Steven said how he liked to make sure the musical phrasing of the words meant they didn't get lost in a song. As an English teacher, I knew exactly what he meant as I seemed to be choosing wedding songs for both the words they contained and the atmosphere and feel they created. He spoke about how songs needed to be poetic and this struck a chord with me. Right away I knew he was 'The One' for our wedding. We were initially just enquiring about an evening set, but as soon as I started to hear more of Steven's arrangements I knew I couldn't miss the opportunity to have him play at our ceremony and having flat, empty, music on CDs would have been sacrilege, in contrast to his intricate, acoustic versions. We discussed our budget concerns and made the discussion to stretch it and Steven was very understanding and discussed many different options with me so that I could ensure I knew I was selecting the right package for us. The platinum package was worth every penny and I am so glad I went for it! Steven somehow manages to strike the perfect balance of being ever the consummate professional who pays attention to every detail and makes sure everything is slick, with being a genuinely, lovely, warm, approachable guy. Planning a wedding is hard work and time consuming but chatting to him never felt like a chore. He took a genuine interest in our wedding and in how we we handling the pressure of planning in the build-up to our big day. Steven spent a lot of time helping me to personalise our day, whilst also giving honest advice about what he felt would and wouldn't work. The outcome was a perfect collection of songs for our day that were special to us and incorporated all of our guests too. The lovely thing is that now some of my memories of the weekend are starting to blur a little, I can attach key moments to a beautiful soundtrack and know there are now songs that whenever I hear them again on the radio will carry me back to our wonderful day. From walking down the aisle to a stunning arrangement of It Must be Love where Steven set absolutely the right romantic ambiance to being whisked off at high speed in a golf buggy, giggling as we could hear Steven belting out Oliver's Army on a veranda overlooking the 18th hole. He even learned our first dance Lionel Richie's My Destiny (a cheesy pop song that was playing on our iPad a few weeks after we met and my husband said he was going to have that as our first dance one day). Steven managed to make it sound cool and Indie and in-keeping with the other songs and it meant we could relax as we took to the floor- something we had both been dreading. After opening our evening with a beautifully chilled set of the likes of Fast Car and Chasing Cars which created a lovely sentimental atmosphere, Steven the got out the loop pedal, upped the tempo and had the the whole of our guests, bopping, moshing and belting out some 90s classics. Ever the professional (and the ex-teacher), inbetween joking around with our crowd, Steven put safety first and cut short James's sit Down as my husband was being paraded Jewish wedding style in the air by his football team. A personal thanks for preventing our married life from being cut short Steven ha. If I'm going to be completely honest here (as I know some of you will have reservations and that's why you're reading the reviews section), having opted for the platinum package, we were a little apprehensive about spending such a large proportion of our budget on live music but Steven was worth every penny and absolutely made every part of our day and night special. I am absolutely certain that we would not have had the incredible time we did if a Steven hadn't been there. And so here we are a few days later, with all my guests still gushing about how fantastic Steven was and what an absolutely lovely, funny bloke he is- especially for a Yorkshire man ha! We are already all planning to all go and see him again somehow as we don't want our wedding to be the first and only time we have had the absolute privilege of hearing the beautiful sound of his voice and guitar. We found out that are wedding venue are even trying to book him now having never met him previously. So once again Steven, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the wedding you gave us and you are single-handedly responsible for. You have managed to please 120 guests and a bride and groom and given us a beautiful soundtrack to a beautiful day which I know we will cherish forever. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you, know you and listen to you. Thank you! Joanna and Andrew Stirrup x

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

There are too many. I play such a huge part in each wedding that it's hard to choose. If I had to choose I'd say the one where the bride got her photo taken with Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch! And then she sang a song with me!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

Cool, indie, alternative, organised, passionate

What about your business are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the amount of positive testimonials I have received in the past few years and that brides rave about my service.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

Step back and take stock. You can't please everyone even when you try. It's your day and while you need to be mindful of those around you don't forget why you're getting married.

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

I was once at the wedding of a couple where the bride had survived a very serious brain tumour. She had travelled to LA to have life saving surgery. As a thank you to the surgeon they invited him to the wedding and left an empty chair for him. Halfway through the meal the surgeon arrived. He had taken the red eye flight directly from his son's graduation in the US to be at the wedding. He arrived to a rapturous round of applause and a standing ovation. That was pretty spine chilling and extremely special.

Describe your typical process with a couple.

I want to immerse myself in my couple's weddings. I'm not just coming to sing, I'm coming to give you an experience. One of the ways I do this is to put my couples into a private, exclusive Facebook group which is a community of people planning their weddings. I broadcast regularly on facebook live especially for that group AND give them access to my public gig diary so they can come and see me live. It's a way of always being in touch with one another, to make them feel like they can ask me anything at any time and so when I walk through the door at their wedding, it's like a friend has arrived!

What makes a romantic first dance?

I'm a bit emotional to be honest. I don't come across that way but it doesn't take much to get my eyes wet. It's usually when couples choose a song that is personal to them and I can see them gazing into each others' eyes singing the lyrics to one another.

What is your number one floor-filler?

Without a doubt it's Superstition by Stevie Wonder followed by You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon

Which band from the past would you most like to have been part of?

Flip! Definitely would have loved to have experienced the exhiliration of playing at Woodstock or have been a part of Simon and Garfunkel's band! I'd play an entire day of Paul Simon's music if I could.

What is the soundtrack to your life?

Indie indie indie. I'm a child of the 90s but going to University opened up my world to a range of lyrical masters including James Taylor, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. I'm also quite a fan of Tom Waits but there aren't many of his songs that would go down too well at a wedding.
